Free School Meals

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free hot meal each day, as part of the Universal Free School Meals scheme. To order meals, please go to our school's ISS webpage and follow the instructions to order a meal.  You will not be charged for meals ordered.

Older children whose parents/carers meet certain criteria may also be eligible for a daily free school meal (please click here). These are funded by the government and can save families up to £500 per year; they need to be ordered as above, via our school's ISS webpage.

Children who receive free school meals follow the same routines at lunchtime as those who do not; all children take their tray to the serving hatch and ISS staff serve the meal that has been ordered.

Applying for free school meals will:

  • Benefit your child – s/he can have the choice of a delicious and nutritious hot meal every day (or bring packed lunches on some days and have hot meals on other days)
  • Benefit you – you could save money (up to £500 per year) and time in preparing packed lunches
  • Benefit our school - the Government provides £1,320 of additional funding for every child registered to receive free school meals. That’s money that our school can invest in your child’s education.

Easy and quick to apply! If you receive ONE of the following, you can apply:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income related Employment & Support Allowance
  • Support under part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit) and have an annual income of less than £16,190
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit

Nursery aged children eligible for free school meals must be receiving education before and after lunch to be entitled to free school meals.

When you are registered:

  • Your child can still bring a packed lunch if s/he prefers
  • We may be able to offer a place at our After School Club for £2.50 per evening (subject to places)
  • Help may be available for instrument tuition
  • The Year 3 and Year 6 residential trip may cost half the price
  • Our school receives extra money to invest in your child’s education.
