Year 5

Locality of food

This week in Year 5, we have been exploring where a range of ingredients have been grown and sourced from around the world. We used our geographic skills to identify the countries on the world map, to help us sort and match the food to the correct location in our work. We learnt much of the food we consume is imported from all over the world, such as watermelon, rice, coconuts and feta cheese. These were just a handful of items that were not easily accessible for the Tudors. Whereas they were able to eat foods like salmon, beef, pork, peas, tomatoes and drink tea as they were reared and grown in the UK.  This learning was key to help us understand how limited the Tudor diets were, as they did not have access to the range of ingredients we have now.
