Year 5

Reversible and irreversible chemical changes

This week in Year 5, we have been learning about the differences between reversible and irreversible chemical changes. We discussed a range of changes to materials that could be reversed such as ice, chocolate, ice-cream and butter melting. We found out with cooling, these materials go through a process of 'solidification' and can reverse back to its original state. However, we understood some material changes are irreversible, so they can not go back to its original states, such as log burning, bread toasting and our favourite was observing the reaction to milk and vinegar!
