Welcome to the final newsletter of 2023!

Christmas Shows

Thank you to everyone who has attended one of our six Christmas performances this week.  The children and staff have worked so hard to put together impressive shows with brilliant singing, stories and festive joy - I hope that they have helped you to feel ready for Christmas!

Year 6 World War Two Afternoon

Well done to Year 6 for their WWII afternoon that took place this week.  Parents and carers came into school to see some performances of dance and poetry. They also spent some time in class sampling the soup that the children had made and seeing all the great learning that the children have completed this term.

Updates from FGB meeting this week
We had our final Governors meeting of the term this week and wanted to share with you some of our discussions.

  • We have approved the new Safeguarding Policy for the school - this is a crucial document as it details how we all work together to ensure that our children are kept safe.  To read this policy, please click here.
  • We also looked at the results from the latest parent survey.  A key question was related to the number of parents who completed the survey - only around 13% of the school.  We discussed how we could get more feedback and have decided to repeat the survey in the Summer Term with a paper based version to try and support as many families to complete the feedback.  We were proud of the improved scores from the previous survey and that 100% of parents who responded felt that their child is happy at the school, 98% of children feel safe and that 94% of parents think that the school makes sure the pupils are well behaved. An area that we are keen to work on is how we communicate with parents about what your child is learning.  We will be looking at different options to share more regular curriculum updates as well as the information in the termly curriculum overview.

The team of governors would like to take this opportunity to wish all members of the King’s Oak community a very happy Christmas.  We have enjoyed the opportunity to be in school recently to see some of the festive performances and to visit excellent learning in the classrooms. Have a lovely holiday.

Santa Dash

On Monday 18th December we will be holding a King's Oak Santa Dash.  Each year group will get the opportunity to run around a marked course across the school site.  The idea is for some festive fun whilst also promoting sport and fitness.  If your child would like to bring in a Santa hat or festive headwear for the event, they will be most welcome.  Hopefully it will be a lot of fun and help to keep the children active and engaged as we approach the end of term!

Please remember that school finishes next Thursday 21st December at 14:00 and the Spring Term starts on Tuesday 9th January 2024.

Wishing you and all your family a peaceful, joyous and relaxing festive period.
