Harvest

Thank you to everyone for your very generous donations to our harvest festival appeal.  We were able to send a large quantity of food items to Brite Box, our chosen charity.  In our harvest assembly, the children sang beautifully and we also had a special performance by the school choir.  What a wonderful way to celebrate this important seasonal event.

Year 3 Hockey Festival

Well done to our pupils from Year 3 who represented the school at the borough hockey festival this week.  The event took place at Surbiton Hockey Club and involved a combination of skills based activities as well as match play.  The children also got to meet the team GB player, Gareth Furlong.  All the children performed brilliantly and really enjoyed the experience and even won a medal.  As you can see from the photo, the mouth guards were a little uncomfortable but everyone coped!

Polka Theatre Half-Term Ticket offer for King's Oak families

Thanks to our links with the Polka Theate, our families are able to get half-price tickets to their half-term show, Everything Has Changed.  It is a joyful, physical production for ages 6-12 on how to deal with change.  If you would like to take up this offer, use the code: HALFPRICE either online, via phone: 020 8543 4888 or in person at the box office.  The offer is valid on all public performances and is capped at 4 tickets per person.  Please note that this is a closed offer for King's Oak families only and must not be shared with the wider public.

Governing Board Updates

We had our first full meeting of the governing board this week and had a packed agenda to get through.  Highlights were:

  • We approved several policies including the new school Safeguarding Policy, this crucial policy is now available on the school website here.
  • We spent time reviewing the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) and Sports Premium strategies.  It was pleasing to see how much progress had been made and to see the planned initiatives for this academic year.
  • We also had a discussion about how we could continue to promote and market the school to encourage more families to join us.  Hopefully you'll see some progress with this soon - look out for some changes to the school frontage.

Parking and respect for our neighbours

I know that many of you walk, scoot and cycle to school - this is great for the school and the environment, thank you.  If you do need to drive to school, please remember that it is recommended to park in the Matalan/Aldi car park for the short and convenient walk to school.  Unfortunately, we have received several complaints from local residents about parents parking inappropriately in the local area - across corners, on pavements, blocking driveways and even in some cases parking in a residents driveway! It is very important that we work effectively with our community to ensure that we are good neighbours and show respect and kindness to all.  Please can you ensure that if you are parking in the local area that you show consideration for residents, pedestrians and other road users and that you are parking legally at all times - thank you.

PSA Spooky Disco

Huge thanks and congratulations to the PSA for putting on such a successful Spooky Disco this afternoon.  The hall looked phenomenal and a huge amount of work had gone into the decorations and preparation of the treat bags that all the children received.  There were brilliant costumes and groovy moves on display - thank you to all the volunteers for giving the children such a fantastic treat at the end of such a busy half-term!

I hope that you all manage to enjoy a restful and positive half-term break, it has been a very long and action packed start to the academic year.  School reopens on Monday 4th November for the seven week run up to the Christmas break.

Thank you for your continued support.
