Parent Governor Vacancy

As you are already aware, we had a vacancy on the Governing Board due to the end of the term of office of Brenda Baker, one of our two parent governors.  Sadly, we didn't get any applications for a new candidate.  However, Brenda has very kindly offered to continue her governor role as no new parents have stepped forward.  We are very grateful for her continued support as not only a school governor but also the Chair of the PSA! Please thank her when you see Brenda around the school.

Year 6 School Journey - Thames Young Mariners

I was lucky enough this week to accompany Year 6 on their residential visit to Thames Young Mariners.  The children worked incredibly well together to develop their kayaking, stand-up paddle-boarding, orienteering, challenge course and problem solving skills.  The cooling river water was very welcome in the heat and some of us might have 'accidentally' fallen in to enjoy the refreshment.  The children also got to jump off the dock and jetty to have some more cooling fun.  The children did brilliantly and were a credit to our school - thank you to everyone - staff and children - who took part.

Caterlink - Wimbledon Tennis Celebration

To celebrate Wimbledon fortnight, our school caterer, Caterlink are putting on a special menu next Friday.  The booking will be through the normal system if your child wants to join in the tennis fun and have some strawberries and cream for pudding!

Attachment Aware School Award

This week I attended an award ceremony where King's Oak received our Bronze Attachment Aware School Award.  This is a project we have been working on all year.  We have been focused on emotion coaching, developing systems to ensure that our children and families have a secure attachment to our school and how we support children who have faced trauma.  The award was presented to us by the Mayor of Richmond, Councillor Penny Frost.

Reminder Emotionally Based School Avoidance - Parent Workshop - next week!

If you are interested in attending, please send an email to deborah.fossey@kop.rbksch.org
The aim of this workshop is:
To explore the current understanding around emotionally based school avoidance, what factors might affect it from a parent and school perspective and what could be helpful in terms of managing thoughts, feelings and behaviours. EBSA is not a child problem, it is a problem around the child and as such our workshop aims to look at the issue holistically.

  • This workshop will provide you with background information about EBSA
  • Space to think about any behaviour that you may witness from your child/children, and what this might mean for them and you
  • Practical ideas and tools to support with emotional regulation
  • There will also be time to ask questions at the end

If you would like further information about this, or any other work offered by the Mental Health Support Team, please speak to the designated Mental Health Lead, Deborah Fossey.

Have a fantastic weekend - only two weeks now until the end of term!
