Year 3 and 4 Cross Country

Well done to our team of athletes from Year 3 and 4 that took part in the borough cross country competition this week.  There were four separate races with the Year 3 children running a course of 1.8km and the Year 4 children 2.35km. The course in Hinchley Wood involved wooded and hilly sections and some flat areas at the start and finish of each race.  The children did well at supporting each other and cheering on their friends - one athlete managed to come 5th overall in her race which was an amazing achievement - there were about 60 runners in each race!

SEND Early Intervention

Following our successful bid for funding, 5 staff from King’s Oak (Ms Fossey, Ms Balendran, Ms Plumb, Mrs Kelkar and Mrs Markowska) have been trained to deliver the Drawing and Talking intervention. We will be starting the intervention in the Summer term - and are currently considering which children we will start with.

Drawing and Talking is a therapeutic intervention for children, young people and adults. It is designed as a short-term, time-limited, pro-active intervention intended to complement, rather than replace, the work of specialist mental health services. It is a trauma- and attachment-based intervention, supporting individuals to process emotional experiences, develop a sense of safety, and build secure relationships through a structured, supportive approach.

Through a 12-week cycle of 30-minute one-to-one sessions, this non-intrusive tool allows young people to process emotional pain and use drawing as a way to help them express their feelings differently from ordinary verbal language.

The Drawing and Talking therapeutic intervention allows individuals to discover and communicate emotions through a non-directed technique. This is what sets Drawing and Talking apart from existing solution-focused and cognitive-based therapies and interventions.

If you want to know more about this intervention or want to know more about if it is suitable for your child, please talk to Ms Fossey or Ms Balendran.  You can also see more about the intervention here: https://drawingandtalking.com/who-we-help

Wishing Our Families a Happy Eid
As Ramadan comes to a close, we would like to wish all our families celebrating Eid al-Fitr a very happy and blessed celebration. Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and is a special time for Muslim families to come together, share meals, exchange gifts, and celebrate with loved ones. It's a joyful occasion that follows a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection.
We hope that those celebrating enjoy this special time with family and friends, filled with happiness, delicious food, and wonderful memories.
At King's Oak Primary School, we value and celebrate the diversity of our school community. Events like Eid remind us of the rich traditions and cultures that make our school such a special place. We're proud to support all our families in celebrating the occasions that are meaningful to them.
