Year 6 School Journey - Thames Young Mariners

Well done to all the children in Year 6 who participated in the school journey this week to Thames Young Mariners.  They all did a fantastic job with their water based activities – paddle-boarding, canoeing and raft building and racing.  They also took part in orienteering, team building adventure courses and fun activities around their camp site.

Kingston Young Carers

Thank you to everyone who supported our non-unform day today by providing a donation to the Kingston Young Carers charity.  The team came into school on Monday and presented an assembly to the children about how they support young carers in our community and how important their work is.  I am pleased to be able to send them £641 from King's Oak to support their fantastic work, what an amazing quantity of donations - thank you so much!

Class Photographs

On Monday, we will be having professional class photographs taken.  Please make sure that your child is wearing their correct school uniform and is ready for the group photo to be taken.

School Health Service - Parent/Carer Advice clinics

The Your Healthcare School Health Service offer support with children’s health and wellbeing to children and families who attend state funded Kingston Schools or are home educated and live in Kingston. Parent advice clinics are for parents of primary school aged children. They run weekly during term-time on different days of the week.

What sort of support/advice is available at a parent advice clinic?
Common issues we provide support and advice with bedwetting, constipation, soiling, nutrition and healthy lifestyles, behaviour, dental health, emotions and sleep. Appointments are on-line, by telephone or in person at our clinic in Surbiton. The aim of the appointment is to find out more about your child’s needs so we can advise you on what to do next. This might include referral to specialists, suggesting you see your GP, signposting to resources that can help you or a more detailed assessment of your child’s health needs by a school health practitioner.

Can I get support with speech and language concerns?
For concerns regarding your child’s language development the children’s Speech and Language Therapy advice line is available on Wednesdays 10-12 and Thursdays 2-4pm. The contact number is 020 8339 8106 and a voicemail is available for call back.

How do I book an appointment?
Please click on the booking form link: Parent Advice Clinic Booking Form

Alternatively, you can contact the School Health service on:
Email: KU19-schoolhealth@yourhealthcare.org
Phone: 020 8549 6323
Please include your child’s full name, date of birth and school in your email.

Appointments are 20 minutes long. If you have multiple concerns to discuss, please contact the School Health Team so that we can offer you a suitable appointment time

Appointments are for one child. If discussing more than one child, please book a separate appointment for each child.

Parent workshops on school avoidance

Rulis are running two parent workshops designed by educational psychologist Dr Jerricah Holder, specifically to support you - both are online via zoom and open for parents and carers to book now.

Please note that these workshops are subject to minimum enrolment numbers. If we do not receive sufficient interest the sessions may need to be postponed or cancelled.

Session 1: When School Feels Hard: Support in the Early Stages of Attendance worries
Wednesday 24 June, 10-12pm
Book here

This session is aimed at parents/carers experiencing early-stage / emerging school avoidance: where attendance difficulties are beginning to surface or increasing in frequency, often including increased morning worries at home, reluctance to come to school/some days of absence, and needing significant coaxing or support to attend.

By the end of this session, you will have:

  • A better understanding of why school can feel overwhelming for some children
  • Confidence to spot the early signs that your child may be struggling
  • Practical, compassionate strategies to support your child through difficult mornings and school transitions
  • A clearer picture of how home and school can work together to help your child feel safe and ready to learn
  • Had the opportunity to reflect and share experiences with other families who understand what this feels like

PSA Non-Uniform Day - Friday 19th June

To support the PSA Summer Fair which is taking place after school on Friday 26th June, next Friday, we are holding a non-uniform day to provide the PSA with donations for the tombola stalls.  If your child is in EYFS or KS1, and they want to participate in the non-uniform day, they need to bring in a donation of chocolates or sweets and if they are in KS2 it should be a bottle or cash donation.
