PSA Discos
Thanks to the awesome Parent Staff Association for the wonderful Spooky Discos that took place this evening.  It was a fantastic event and lovely to see all the children enjoying the fun together at school.  So many had made an enormous effort to dress up - some of the children were unrecognisable! The event has raised a magnificent £312 to provide resources for King's Oak pupils - thank you to everyone who attended and helped out on the evening.

Year 6 Secondary Transfer
If you have a child in Year 6, please can you remember that you have until the 31st October to submit your secondary school application form.  You should apply online through the eAdmissions website, you can access the link here.  For further information, you can see details on the Kingston Council website - link here.  If you have any questions or problems, please let me know.

Oral Health Workshops

This week, some year groups were visited by King's College NHS for some workshops on oral health.  The children engaged brilliantly and were rewarded with a new toobrush and some toothpaste, I hope that they are being well used at home! They are also offering support for parents - please see the details in the flyer below or use this link to access the session.

Harvest Festival
On Wednesday 18th October, we will be holding our Harvest Festival celebration. As part of this, we would love to receive donations for our harvest appeal.  If you have any tinned food that you are able to donate, we would very much appreciate it.  This year we have chosen to support Brite Box who we work closely with - they would particularly like donations of tinned tomatoes, baked beans, kidney beans, chickpeas or bags of dried pasta. Anything that they cannot use will be passed to the Kingston Foodbank.

Cooking Together

In another fantastic healthy food opportunity, Brite Box are offering a free opportunity for families to get together and cook and eat together. Families can enjoy an after school snack, prepare a favourite BRITE Box meal and either stay to eat together or take their meal home to share. Welcare House is a very homely and friendly environment with a garden and playroom for children to play.

Some comments from the first group:

"The children loved helping with the chopping", "It was a very bonding experience" "We really enjoyed it, the children felt included and it encouraged them to eat the meal"

Parent Consultations
Thank you to the 129 families who have already booked your parent consultation meeting for next week.  The meetings are taking place on Tuesday 17th and Thursday 19th between 15:30 and 18:30.  It is vital that we can meet with all parents so if you have yet to book, please do so as soon as possible.  You can do this through your Arbor account - the booking window will close on Monday at 12:00.

Governor Updates
At our first Full Governing Board meeting of the school year on Thursday evening, we had a packed agenda and discussed many important things.  First on the agenda was the appointment of the Chairs - we are pleased to be able to announce that Clive Douglas and Angela Patel were re-elected as Co-Chairs of Governors and that Luiz Simpson was re-elected as the Vice Chair.  We also welcomed new governor Harry Atkinson to the team.  We moved on to approve the draft of the School’s Sports Premium strategy document for the year ahead and discussed the elements that will make up the School Development Plan for 2023/2024.  The school and governors will shortly be asking parents and carers to complete a survey so that we can see how well the school is doing and determine areas for improvement - please look out for the link when it is sent through.  Governors will also be present at the parent consultation meetings next week to encourage survey completion and answer any questions that you might have.

Thanks everyone for your ongoing support, have a lovely weekend.
