Year 5

Homework in Year 5

Homework can be particularly useful for children. At this stage, children are developing greater independence, responsibility, and foundational academic skills that prepare them for secondary school. Homework helps consolidate what children have learned in class and completing homework independently fosters self-discipline, time management, and a sense of responsibility. These are important life skills that will benefit children throughout their education.

Homework in Year 5 is made up of three parts. Everyday children need to be reading at home. This needs to be recorded in their Reading Records at least three times per week. Every Friday, children will bring home their purple homework book. This will have a reading comprehension activity in it that needs to be completed. This needs to be returned to school by Tuesday. Each week, children are expected to get 1000 points on Mathletics. They have from Monday until Sunday to do this. It is recommended that children do this in several attempts and not in one sitting. Getting excessive points is not helpful. Once your child has 1000 points for the week, then recommend they do some reading instead.
