Exploring Autumn

This week we have been learning about autumn. We made a sensory tray filled with autumn items such as pine cones, conkers and leaves. The children were fascinated by touching and feeling them. We had a discussion about each item, and we learnt that conkers live in a hard prickly shell and we needed to be careful when handling them. As we opened them we discovered the conkers inside and the inside was smooth.

We went onto make some autumn collages using paint and our autumn items. We used red, brown and yellow for our colour theme. Some children decided to paint their leaves, which we then printed onto paper and other children used glue to stick their leaves onto the paper.

Challenge – While you’re out walking this weekend you could have a conversation with your little one about the autumn changes you can see in the environment. It would be great to see some autumn photos on Tapestry which we can share with the class next week.

Next week we will be reading Toddle Waddle – there’s a hullabaloo at the seaside when a toddler takes his friends on a stroll to the end of the pier.
