Reception

Coming to England.

Our focus story this week has been Coming to England by Floella Benjamin. The children have shown great interest in Floella’s journey and what it means to move to a new country. Using our Talk for Writing approach, we’ve begun to retell her story in our own words, adding actions and story maps to help us remember key events.

In maths, we’ve been learning to subitise numbers to 3 — recognising amounts without counting. The children are becoming more confident at spotting patterns in small groups of objects, such as dots on dice or fingers on a hand. We’ve used games and visual resources to support this learning, and it's been great to see the class beginning to talk about numbers using mathematical language.

Thank you for your continued support at home — and this week we have sent home reading books for you to have a look at with your children. We’re very proud of how well the children are settling into Reception life!

Have a lovely weekend!
