Year 6

Remembrance Day

This week in topic, we have explored Remembrance day: what it is and ways people show respect. We have looked at why people wear poppies and what each coloured poppy represents. Talking with our peers we have discussed and shared our own experiences of Remembrance Sunday. From this, we have written our own acrostic poems using the word ‘poppy’ to structure our ideas. In English, we have planned our World War 2 themed poems by identifying key words in an extract from Letters From The Lighthouse.

Next week we will be:

  • RE - Exploring the Jewish festival of Passover ‘Pesach’,

  • Computing - creating infographic timelines showing the development of computers,

  • DT- planning and creating model bomb shelters,

  • Topic - identifying bias in a range of sources,

  • Science - the functions of the human eye.
