Year 6

English

This week in English we have started our new novel, Breaker by AnneMarie Allan which is linked to our new topic for this half term - climate change. Using our retrieval and inference skills, we have predicted what may happen in the book. We have read up to chapter 2, generating a bank of evidence to build character profiles for Tom, Beth, Mum and Dad. Applying this evidence, we have begun to plan a short piece of narrative which will include dialogue to move the action along as well as figurative language to create an image in the reader’s mind.

Starting next week in indoor PE, we will be starting gymnastics. In these sessions, the children will need to remove their shoes. If the children have any yoga socks/trampolining socks/socks with grip on the bottom, they can wear these for the session rather than being bare footed.

Next week we will be:

  • Beginning to improve our balance and flexibility in PE (gymnastics),

  • Exploring what the Greenhouse Effect is in topic,

  • Continuing to develop our inference skills in guided reading,

  • Researching the artist Souleymane Keita in art.
