Year 4

Watch out, Hollywood! Year 4 are bringing Victorian life to the stage!
In our learning about the Victorians, we have been exploring what life was like for poor children in the past. Across different subjects, we have learnt how hard daily life can be, especially for children who had very little money or support. In English, we are reading Street Child by Berlie Doherty, which tells the story of a boy called Jim Jarvis. We have focused on the first few pages of the book, where Jim has only one shilling and tries to buy a pie. To help us understand his feelings and the choices he had to make, we acted out this scene in class. This has helped us imagine what Jim’s life was like and has prepared us to write a diary entry or letter in his role of Jim, describing his experiences and emotions.
