Year 6

English
This week in English we have planned and then written a short narrative based on chapter 3 from our book, ‘Breaker’. To prepare us for writing, we acted out a short scenario from the book involving three characters: the professor, Beth and Tom. Then, we used speech bubbles to organise and plan the conversation in more detail, focusing on differing reporting clauses. Taking into account the audience when writing, we made sure that we used a range of different devices such as figurative language and varying nouns and pronouns. We have embedded dialogue into our narrative to move the action along as well as develop strong characterisation.
Next week we will be:
-
Researching defining characteristics of groups within the animal kingdom in science,
-
Applying our maths skills to calculate carbon footprints in geography,
-
Sitting practice tests for maths and reading (the children do not need to revise and results will be shared at parent’s evening).
