Reception

Australia!

This week in Reception we began by reading The Koala Who Could, which sparked lots of discussion about trying new things, managing worries and being brave. The children enjoyed talking about Kevin the koala and made thoughtful connections to their own experiences of change. Through role play, drawing and shared writing, they confidently retold parts of the story and explored its important message.

In maths, we focused on the composition of number. The children explored how numbers can be made in different ways using practical resources such as cubes, counters and tens frames. They enjoyed finding different combinations and explaining their thinking, developing both confidence and mathematical language.

Our topic work took us all the way to Australia. We learnt about Australian wildlife and compared it to animals we might see in the UK. The children were fascinated by the unique animals and showed great curiosity. Our absolute favourite was the duck-billed platypus! We loved learning about its unusual features and many children chose to draw, paint or talk about it during independent learning time.

Have a lovely weekend!
