Reception

The Oak Tree.

What a wonderful week we have had in Reception!

This week our learning has been centred around the The Oak Tree by Julia Donaldson. The children thoroughly enjoyed listening to the story and learning about the animals that live in and around an oak tree. We talked about how the tree changes throughout the seasons and why it is such an important habitat for wildlife. The children created some lovely artwork inspired by the story and used new vocabulary such as acorn, branches, trunk and roots. We also practised retelling parts of the story and thinking about our favourite characters.

In maths, we were introduced to the rekenrek. The children have started using this special counting frame to help them represent numbers to 10. We practised subitising small amounts and began exploring ways to make different numbers by moving the beads. The children showed great enthusiasm and are developing confidence when explaining their thinking.

In phonics, we continued practising our sounds and blending words. Please keep reading at home and practising the sounds we send home each week.

Thanks for all your support,

The Reception Team
