Year 5

Air resistance
This week, Year 5 have continued their learning on forces, with a focus on air resistance. The children carried out an investigation to explore how the height from which a parachute is dropped affects how it falls. They discussed how to set up a fair test by controlling variables, ensuring that only the height was changed while other factors, such as the size of the parachute and the weight attached, remained the same. Working in groups, pupils carefully dropped their parachutes from different heights, timed each descent, and recorded their results clearly. They showed great teamwork and scientific thinking, making predictions and considering what their results might show. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow in planning investigations and recording data, as well as their enthusiasm for discovering how forces like air resistance work in real-life situations. Next week we will be learning about water resistance.
