We have started reading the excellent "Secrets of a Sun King" by Emma Carol. This is an adventure story set in the early 20th Century that features an Ancient Egyptian twist. We will be using this text to inform all of our literacy teaching this term. Early on in the book, the main character finds herself confronted by a grumpy nurse who would not let her visit her sick Grandfather in hospital. We used this moment to practise our drama skills to have a go at convincing the nurse to let us visit the ward. We thought about our facial expressions and body language but also collected the language we used during the activity. We noticed we used lots of formal language and compliments. Next week, we will be using this language to help us write a persuasive letter from the point of view of the main character.
