Reception

Martha maps it out
This week in Reception, the children enjoyed a range of exciting learning activities across the curriculum.
In literacy, we have continued reading Martha Maps It Out. The children have been inspired by Martha’s creativity and problem-solving, and have started making their own maps. They thought carefully about familiar places in their local area, adding features such as parks, roads, shops, and their homes. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they talk about their maps and explain what each part represents.
In maths, we have been focusing on numbers 6, 7, and 8. The children have been learning to make these numbers using “5 and some more.” For example, they now know that 6 is 5 and 1 more, 7 is 5 and 2 more, and 8 is 5 and 3 more. We have used practical resources and games to help the children build and explore these numbers in a hands-on way.
The children have worked hard all week and should feel very proud of their efforts. We look forward to continuing this learning next week!
Enjoy the weekend,
The Reception team.
