What We’ve Been Learning This Week

This week, the children have enjoyed taking part in our yoga sessions, helping them to develop their balance, coordination, and wellbeing while having lots of fun.

In literacy, we started reading The Three Little Pigs. The children have been extending their vocabulary through discussions about the story and have enjoyed retelling the events using props, pictures, and their own words. This has supported their language development, listening skills, and understanding of storytelling.

In mathematics, we have been revising the numbers 1 and 2. The children have been practising number recognition, counting, and understanding quantity through a range of engaging activities.

We have also been learning about rectangles. The children explored the differences between rectangles and squares, noticing that both shapes have four sides and four corners. They learnt that a square has four equal sides, while a rectangle has two long sides and two short sides. The children enjoyed looking for shapes in their environment and identifying rectangles and squares around the nursery.

At home, please encourage your child to retell The Three Little Pigs story using their own words and discuss the different characters and events. You can also support their learning by helping them recognise and count the numbers 1 and 2 in everyday situations. During walks or around the home, encourage your child to go on a shape hunt and look for rectangles and squares, talking about what makes them different. We would love to see your child’s learning in action, so please take some photographs of your shape hunt or number activities and upload them to Tapestry. These simple activities will help reinforce the learning that has taken place in nursery this week.
