Year 4

Curiosity, Chaos and a Gladiator!

This week in English, we have been reading Pandora's Box by Julia Golding. The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring this fascinating retelling of the well-known Greek myth and discussing the important lessons and teachings within the story. We have considered themes such as curiosity, consequences, and hope, and have reflected on how these messages are still relevant today.

Using the text as our inspiration, we have been developing our descriptive writing skills by focusing on how Pandora is presented. The children have written detailed descriptions of her beauty and elegance, carefully selecting ambitious vocabulary and using a range of descriptive techniques to bring their writing to life.

Next week, the children will be making improvements to their work before producing a polished final copy that showcases all the skills they have developed.

As an exciting extra, we also had the opportunity to say hello to Steel from Gladiators! The children were thrilled to meet him, and it was a fun and memorable experience for everyone.
