Year 5 have been celebrating the wonderful diversity within our class by exploring our cultural identities and heritage. We researched the countries we come from and discovered fascinating facts about their history, geography and culture. We then wrote about our own heritage, sharing the languages we speak, family traditions, special celebrations and customs that are important to us. It has been fantastic to see the children proudly sharing their experiences and listening with curiosity and respect as they learnt about one another. Through our work, we have discovered that although we may have different backgrounds, languages and traditions, we can learn so much from each other. Most importantly, we have learnt that cultural identity is something to be proud of. It is part of what makes each of us unique and gives us the opportunity to share, celebrate and learn from the rich and varied experiences of those around us.
