This week, we got stuck into our normal routine and began our first book, Escape from Pompeii. We learnt about a young boy named Tranio and how he escaped the terrifying eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

To help us recap the story, we took part in some drama activities. We worked together to create freeze frames for each part of the story, bringing the events to life and helping us think carefully about the characters, settings and key moments.

Next week, we will be continuing our exciting journey through Escape from Pompeii. We will be developing our understanding of the story and beginning our very first independent write, where the children will have the opportunity to show off everything they have learnt!

In maths, we will continue developing our understanding of the column method and work with numbers up to 1,000. We will be building our confidence with place value and using different strategies to solve problems.
