Year 3

Bridging through 10

In maths this week, Year 3 have been developing their understanding of bridging through 10 when adding numbers. We have been learning to partition the second addend so that we can first make a number bond to 10, before adding the remaining amount. For example, when solving 8 + 5, we can partition 5 into 2 + 3, making 8 + 2 = 10, and then 10 + 3 = 13. This strategy is helping the children to develop their mental calculation skills and become more confident when adding numbers.
