Year 4

Pompeii, Prepositions & Plenty of Groaning!
Year 4 groaned in unison (you may well have heard them from wherever you were!) as we began preparing for our first piece of writing, focusing on expanded noun phrases with prepositions.
Our inspiration came from our character, Tranio, as he gazes through his window at the beautiful city of Pompeii, completely unaware of the danger that is about to unfold.
The children have been busy exploring how to add detail and atmosphere to their writing, carefully building those all-important expanded noun phrases.
Next week, however, the real challenge awaits. The children will write their own piece inspired by Dion watching his son, Tranio. There may be drama, there may be emotion… and, if today’s reaction is anything to go by, there may also be a few very dramatic sighs from Year 4!
Still, nothing says excellent writing quite like a little theatrical groaning first!
