Reception

Rainy days!
A Week in Reception
What a wonderful week we have had in Reception! We have managed to experience some wonderful weather and talked to the children about how we need to keep dry and seek shelter!
In maths, the children have been exploring number composition to 5. We have been learning how numbers can be made up of smaller amounts and investigating the different ways we can make 5. The children have enjoyed using practical resources, counting objects and sharing their ideas as they develop their understanding of numbers. We will continue to build on these skills through fun, hands-on activities.
In literacy, we have been learning to retell the story Coming to England. The children have been developing their storytelling skills by remembering the key events and talking about what happens in the story. They have worked hard to retell the story in their own words, using their memories and understanding to help them sequence the events. It has been lovely to see their confidence grow as they share their ideas and talk about the story.
The children’s retellings have been captured on Tapestry, so please take a look when you have a chance. It is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate their learning and see how their communication and language skills are developing.
Well done to all the children for their enthusiasm, effort and fantastic learning this week. We are very proud of them and look forward to another exciting week in Reception after the half-term break!
