Year 4

Switches!

Continuing our electricity investigations, this week we experimented with making our own switches. We made them out of card and paper clips and noticed that the paper clips had to be touching as we folded the card. When the switch was open, it prevented the flow of electricity and our bulbs would not light up. When we closed the switch and ensured the paper clips were touching, the bulb would light up. This is because the paper clips are metal and the electricity can flow through when they are touching. We noticed that switches are essential for our safety, so that electricity is not always flowing through any circuit.
