Year 6

Poetry
In English this week we have written a poem about an air raid using a passage of text from ‘Letters From The Lighthouse’. We have applied our knowledge of figurative language, ensuring that the five senses are developed. We have performed our poems in front of the class and have been working hard to use actions and intonation to bring our words to life. We then used our imagination to draw a silhouette to illustrate the main focus of the poem on the text itself, highlighting words we have included.
To prepare for our World War 2 afternoon, we have been learning a poem off by heart in small groups, ensuring that we are reciting in unison, have used intonation and include actions.
Next week we will be hosting our World War 2 afternoon on Thursday 27th from 2.15-3.15. The children will need to bring their costumes into school on the day and will get changed before performing. As part of this, we will be performing drama sketches, a song, a dance and a poem, as well as showcasing our topic learning so far. It would be great to see as many parents and carers as possible.
