We have had a very busy time in Year 5 over the last two weeks, we have been designing and making our own canopic jars out of clay. We used the coil method to make the sides but we had to be very careful not to make them too thin as we had to smooth down the outsides so we could add hieroglyphics onto the sides of the jars for information and decoration. After the pot was completed, we made the lids; this was a little tricky as we had to sculpt the head of one of the gods - the guardians of the organs (see the picture above). An update will follow with pictures of the finished canopic jars so you can see how creative Year 5 pupils are.
