Year 5

Learning overview

We have been keeping very busy in Year 5 this week. Here is a summary of the learning that has been taking place. In English, we are nearing the end of our text "Traitors". We have just completed our final draft of our independent write. We have been honing our Tudor insults to write a less-than-complimentary description of King Henry. In maths, we have been continuing to deepen our understanding of the number system and place value. We have been focusing on hundredths this week and have been ordering, comparing and making links to what we have already learnt about tenths. In French, we have been learning about the rooms in a home and how to describe them. In PE, we have been looking at the skills needed to play netball, focusing on using a range of passing and looking for space. In science, we have just finished our unit on materials and their properties and have just started our new unit on space. We will be learning about the planets in our Solar System and the phases of the moon over the coming weeks.
