Phases of the Moon
This week in Year 5, we’ve been exploring the fascinating phases of the Moon and discovering how its appearance changes as it orbits the Earth. We learnt key vocabulary like waxing, waning, crescent, and gibbous, and everyone enjoyed spotting how the Moon looks different each night. To help us remember the order of the phases, we created our very own “Phases of the Moon” spinners. These clever tools let us rotate through each stage—from New Moon to Full Moon and back again—so we can see the cycle in motion. The class showed brilliant teamwork and creativity while designing and decorating their spinners, and we were all proud of how they turned out. Keep an eye on the night sky—you might be able to identify which phase the Moon is in next!
