Year 5

Tudor portraits
Year 5 have had an exciting week as they completed their art unit on Tudor portraits, and their enthusiasm has been incredible from start to finish. The children began by exploring the use of faint and heavy pencil lines, learning how different pressures can bring depth and structure to a sketch. They also developed their understanding of facial proportions, carefully observing how each feature fits together to create a realistic likeness. Building on these skills, pupils experimented with watercolour techniques, practising gentle washes, layered tones and fine details to bring their portraits to life. Before starting their final pieces, the children used thumbnail sketches to plan their compositions, testing ideas and choosing the most effective layout. The week ended on a high as everyone completed their final Tudor portrait in their sketchbooks, each one showing fantastic effort, individuality and growing artistic confidence. Well done, Year 5!
