Year 5

Hinduism
This term in Year 5, pupils will be learning about Hinduism through the central question “Why do Hindus want to be good?” The children will explore key Hindu vocabulary such as dharma (duty), karma (actions and their consequences), atman (the soul) and moksha (liberation), helping them to understand important beliefs and values. They will also study the story of The Man in the Well, a powerful Hindu analogy that encourages reflection on choices, distractions and what truly matters in life. Through this story, pupils will learn what an analogy is, why it is used, and how stories can help explain complex ideas in a memorable and meaningful way. By discussing these ideas, Year 5 will develop their understanding of Hindu beliefs, as well as their own thinking about right and wrong, responsibility, and how stories can teach important life lessons.
