On Monday, Year 5 had an amazing trip to Kingston Grammar School to take part in a Classics workshop. For many of us this was our first opportunity to learn about the Ancient Greek and Latin languages. During the morning, we took part in three sessions looking at the Ancient Greek alphabet, the structure and roles of a Roman household and a day in the life of a Roman child. We used our newly acquired skills to write out names in Ancient Greek and decode Ancient Greek words into English. We wrote simple sentences about our families in Latin. We compared life in Ancient Rome to that in modern day Kingston and thought about questions we would ask a Roman child about their day-to-day life. We had a fantastic time and everyone learnt something new!
