Year 5

The structure of the Earth
This week, Year 5 have been exploring the fascinating structure of the Earth as part of their mountains topic. Pupils learnt about the different layers—crust, mantle, outer core and inner core—and how each plays a role in shaping our planet. To showcase their understanding, the children created detailed annotated diagrams featuring interactive “lift-the-flap” elements, allowing them to clearly communicate their knowledge in a creative and engaging way. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they carefully labelled each section and explained key vocabulary with confidence. The finished pieces demonstrated both scientific understanding and artistic flair, and the year group should be very proud of their efforts. We are now looking forward to an exciting change in focus next term as our topic shifts to Ancient Egypt.
