Porridge oat play
This week, we have been busy enjoying our builders tray! We started the week with dried porridge oats. The children had lots of fun pouring, scooping and mixing the oats while developing their fine motor skills as they carefully picked them up and explored the different textures.
Midweek, the children used the oats to make their own musical instruments. They enjoyed listening carefully to the different sounds they could make as they shook and shared their instruments with one another.
Towards the end of the week, we added water to the oats and talked together about the changes we could see and feel. The children noticed how the oats became softer, wetter and changed in texture.
The children have also enjoyed exploring numbers in their environment and during carpet time. We have been singing number songs such as Five Little Ducks, Five Little Men in a Flying Saucer and Five Little Monkeys.
Why not continue the learning at home by looking for numbers in your everyday environment?
