Nursery

A Busy Week of Tigers, Shapes and Healthy Heroes

We’ve had such a busy and exciting week at nursery, all centred around our love of The Tiger Who Came to Tea. The children were fascinated by the idea of an unexpected visitor turning up at the door, and we used the story to build on our vocabulary, practising words like furry and stripey to describe our tiger. Some of the children were very curious about what “buns” were when they heard the tiger had eaten them all, so we looked at pictures of different types and talked about how delicious they might be.

It was lovely to hear their imaginations at work when we wondered what the tiger did after leaving Sophie’s house. Some children thought he went back to his cave for a nap, while others were sure he returned to the jungle to see his friends.

Alongside our tiger adventures, we became shape detectives and went on the lookout for circles around the nursery. The children did brilliantly, spotting them everywhere, from the round faces of clocks to the wheels on the bikes outside.

We also spent time talking about how to keep our bodies healthy as our “Healthy Heroes”. We practised how to wash our hands properly to get rid of germs, discussed why brushing our teeth twice a day is so important, and talked about keeping our nails trimmed and hair tidy.

It’s been a week full of curiosity, imagination and learning, and it’s wonderful to see the children growing in confidence and becoming more independent with their personal care routines.
