Reception

Welcome back!
Welcome back! We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable Easter break and that the children are feeling refreshed and ready for the new term ahead. It has been lovely to see everyone settling back into routines so quickly and sharing their holiday news with such enthusiasm.
This term, Reception children have been thoroughly enjoying our focus text, The Extraordinary Gardener. Together, we have explored the journey of the main character and thought carefully about how stories are structured. Building on this, they are now beginning to design and create their own story maps, developing both their storytelling skills and confidence in expressing ideas.
In maths, we have been consolidating our understanding of number bonds to 5. Through practical activities, games, and visual representations, the children have been building a secure foundation in recognising how numbers can be combined in different ways. This is an important step in developing early number sense.
Next week, we will be moving on to exploring simple number sentences. The children will begin to understand how numbers can be represented using symbols, laying the groundwork for early addition and subtraction.
It has been wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm and engagement across all areas of learning, and we look forward to sharing more of their progress with you soon.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Reception team.
