Reception

Garden party!

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderful week we have had in Reception! The highlight of our week was definitely our lovely Garden Party. It was so special to welcome so many families into school and spend time together enjoying the afternoon. The children were incredibly excited to share their learning environment with you and showed such confidence and pride throughout the event. A huge thank you for all of your generous donations, contributions, and support. Your kindness helped make the event such a success, and we are very grateful for the continued support you give our class and school community.

In maths this week, we have been exploring the composition of 10. The children have been using practical resources, number frames, cubes, and drawings to investigate the different ways we can make 10. We have been encouraging the children to explain their thinking using mathematical language such as “part,” “whole,” “altogether,” and “equals.” It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they begin to recognise number patterns and develop a deeper understanding of number bonds to 10.

In literacy, we have been reading the story Martha Maps It Out. The children thoroughly enjoyed following Martha’s adventures and discussing the different maps she created. Inspired by the story, the children have been busy designing their own maps and changing parts of the story to create new adventures for Martha. We have been so impressed by their creativity, imagination, and enthusiasm for storytelling.

Best wishes,
The Reception Team
