Year 3

Baptism
In RE, we have been learning about the importance of baptism in Christianity. We learnt that baptism is a special ceremony where Christians welcome a person into the Christian family. We explored the difference between infant baptism, when babies are baptised by their parents and godparents making promises for them and believer’s baptism, when older people choose to be baptised because they believe in God themselves. We also learnt about important symbols used in baptism, such as water, which represents starting a new life with God and candles, which symbolise Jesus as the light of the world. We also learnt that John the Baptist baptised Jesus in the River Jordan and why this event is important for Christians today.
