Year 3

Forces and Magnets

In science, Year 3 have been investigating whether different materials can block a magnetic field. We discovered that thin materials, such as paper, do not stop the magnetic force, whereas thicker materials, such as a dictionary, can make it more difficult for the magnet to move an object through them. We also put our problem-solving skills to the test by figuring out how to remove a paperclip trapped inside a plastic bottle using a magnet, without opening the bottle! To make it even more exciting, we drew our own paths on the bottles and guided the paperclips along them using the magnet. We had lots of fun exploring magnetic forces and investigating how magnets can work through different materials!
