Pre School

Fine Motor Skills

This week in Pre School we have been focusing on helping the children with the development of their fine motor skills.

The use of fine motor skills begins early for children.  Whether it be holding a toy, feeding themselves using cutlery or their hands or holding a crayon or pencil, everything a child does will strengthen their skill.

In Pre School we encourage the children's fine motor development with activities such as playing with play dough.  Even the small things such as picking up play dough cutters using the pincer and tripod grip and using a whole hand to squash and roll are all great ways to strengthen and develop hand muscles and define fine motor skills ready for when they start holding a pencil for writing when they begin Reception.
