Celebrations!

Following on from our conversations around the months of the year we have been talking about the month of November and thinking about any celebrations or activities that might happen. This week the children have enjoyed talking about Bonfire Night and discussing fireworks. In addition to this, we have been expanding our knowledge of the Hindu festival Diwali which takes place in November. The children have enjoyed making diya lights with play dough and rangoli patterns with rice and powder paint.

This week we have been reading the story ‘A gift for Amma’ which is set in an Indian market in Chennai. The children have enjoyed discussing the different things they see in the market, the vibrant colours and the animals. We have also been exploring some Indian textiles and trying some different foods including mango chutney, poppadoms and even had a chance to make our own coriander and mint chutney.
