Year 2

Year 2

This week, in Year 2, we have been looking at microhabitats. We went out into the playground and searched for different types of microhabitat. We looked under rocks, in soil, under logs and under leaves. We even searched a make-shift pond that had formed in the upturned lid of a storage container. The children found, a tiny slug, lots of worms of various sizes, flies, a butterfly, an earwig and a millipede. The children observed the different habitats and then discussed why certain creatures chose to live there eg, it was dark, damp, safe, or they could camouflage. Perhaps, when you are next outside, you could ask your child to look for and describe a microhabitat to you.
