This week, Year 4 went to the Hogsmill Sewage treatment plant for a tour. Although the smell was quite strong, we had lots of fun learning about how they clean the water in order for it to be safe for us to drink. We learnt about where we collect our water from and the process it goes through to get rid of all the sewage and ensure the water is safe for human consumption. We had a tour of the whole site and learnt what all the machines are for and then got to do an experiment at the end of the session. We learnt that you must not put anything down the toilet other than toilet paper, otherwise it causes a blockage in the sewage, making it harder to filter out the water.
