Year 5

Hajj

In RE this week, we have been exploring and learning about why Muslims go on a pilgrimage. We learnt that a pilgrimage is a spiritual journey taken to a place of worship and in Islam Muslims travel to Mecca, Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj which is one of their pillars of faith. We explored the rituals that are performed by Muslims such as Tawaaf, circling anti-clockwise around the Ka'bah (house of God) 7 times ,  Sa'y, running back and forth between two hills 7 times, sacrifice and much more. We were able to show our understandings of these ritual as we sequenced each step in order and explained what they were. Overall we understood that Muslims go on a pilgrimage to strengthen their relationship with God and fulfil 1/5 of their pillars of faith.
