Sport

Throughout their time at King’s Oak Primary School, all pupils will engage in a variety of different sports and physical activities during weekly PE lessons. We believe that a high-quality PE curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel, not just in sport but across all aspects of life. Our bespoke and fully inclusive curriculum provides opportunities for all pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health, fitness and wellbeing.

In EYFS and KS1, pupils focus on developing confidence and the ability to master the basic locomotor skills so that they are ready to take part in a range of activities. This is then built upon throughout KS2 where children take part in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending, learn to perform dances and gymnastic routines using increasingly complex movements and develop their understanding of safety. In Year 4, children have the opportunity to learn to swim confidently while learning to use a range of strokes. In upper KS2, there is a greater focus on preparing our children for their future in sport and physical activity by including specific leadership and team-building lessons which develop character and embed values, such as fairness and respect.
